Florida Microgreens Delivers Pure Food
Looking for the freshest, longest lasting, and healthiest microgreens in Florida? Welcome to Florida Microgeens, an urban vertical hydroponic farm located in Cape Coral, Florida. We are excited to bring Southwest Florida Non-GMO grown, LIVE microgreens using 100% water and food-safe plastics to grow and deliver our crops.
What are Microgreens? They are tiny (micro) plants, herbs, or vegetables such as arugula, swiss chard, mustard, beetroot, radish, parsley, cabbage, etc., picked just before or after the first leaves have developed. They range in size from 1” to 3” including the stem and leaves with an the average growth time of 10–14 days from seeding to harvest.
See more information here on the types of microgreens we offer.
Microgreens are Intense in Flavor and Color
We are often asked how microgreens taste… does a radish microgreen taste like a “regular” radish once its fully developed? The answer is YES! In many cases, the tiny plant actually tastes like the veggie and sometimes the flavor is more pronounced.. Combine great flavor with beautiful colors and you have all the makings of excellent garnishes and great additions or compliments to entrees, salads, sandwiches, tapas, or other hor d’ oeuvres.
Microgreens are Small in Size but Sustainable
Although we are small in size as are our microgreens, we believe in sustainable farming methods, supporting our local farmers and businesses, and working to provide our community with pesticide and chemical free pure food that is healthy to eat and grown only with water. How do we know it’s pure food? Well that’s part of being “small “. We control everything used to grow the florida microgreens including the water. For example, our water is filtered through a 5 stage reverse osmosis system and tested each time it’s made. Then it’s PH balanced for the plants using only certified lemon juice, fresh squeezed – no chemicals used. And then we plant the seeds – all NON-GMO, pesticide free, open pollinated from certified sources. Then we use certified coco-fiber to grow the greens hydroponically (the roots need something to grab on to so they can stand tall). And believe it or not, we have even researched the plastic trays used to grow the produce. Because we everything to be known – we want our food to be as pure as possible. And after doing a lot of digging, we found that 95% of the big scale farms are using nursery trays that are not food safe to grow your food. This means that all their produce is grown in unknown materials prone to leaching harmful things into the water and the plants. So at Florida Microgreens, we are committed to growing our microgreens in food-safe plastics, that were made and tested specifically for the food industry. That way, we know that each step of the process, from the seed to the water to the trays have been guaranteed to be chemical free using the PURE growing practices.
Microgreens are a Blast of Nutrition
After all we are reading these days about contamination, microgreens are becoming a favorite for many because they can be grown with pure water and are 4-6 times more nutritious to eat than the adult vegetable/plant counterpart. At florida microgreens, we are dedicated to raise the healthiest pure food that we can based on research, experience, and passion for sustainable living.
